Cranston Tool & Outdoor Equipment Library

Your community resource for borrowing hand tools, power tools, garden equipment, outdoor gear, and more—without the cost or storage hassle. 

Library Hours (Borrow & Return): 11 AM – 6 PM daily 

Please note: Library hours are set to align with on-site staff availability. Access outside of these hours is not possible as staff are not on site to support these services.

About the Tool Library

Our tool collection includes:

  • Outdoor Games & Event Bins

No advanced reservations

Tool rentals cannot be reserved in advance or over the phone. Availability can be viewed online through your Tool Library account, but tools must be picked up during operating hours.

Rental Period

  • Most tools: 3 days from pick-up
  • Game bins: 7 Days (no renewals)
  • Outdoor equipment (e.g. kayaks & paddle boards): 5 days (no renewals)
 

Tool Renewals

Call our front desk at 403-781-6614 ext.0 before your rental period ends (i.e. by day 3 for tools). Our renewal line is open from 9:00 AM-9:00 PM (Holidays 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM).

Late Fees

Late fees begin the day after the rental period ends. For tools and activity bins late fees are $5/day per item. For kayaks and paddle boards late fees are $10/day per item. You must pay the late fees when you return the tool.

Event Blackout

Closed during major CRA events (Stampede breakfast, Cranchella) while maintenance staff are off-site.

How do I borrow tools/equipment?

STEP 1: Create a tool library account

Click the link below to create a Tool Library account. You need this account to be able to borrow items and it allows you to browse which items are currently in stock.

STEP 2: Go to the CRA to check out tools and/or equipment

Come to the front desk between the hours of 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM to rent out our equipment. Most tools can be rented out for 3 days. Outdoor equipment can be rented out for 5 days (no renewals).

STEP 3: Need to renew your tool?

If you need to renew a tool, give us a call at 403-781-6614 ext.0 before your tool’s due date so we can extend your rental for another 3 days. Make sure to call by the last day of the rental period.

STEP 4: Return your tool to the CRA

Come to the front desk when it’s time to return your tool between the hours of 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM. We will check the item(s) in, process any late fees (if any) and get our maintenance staff to meet with you to collect the items.

Key Borrowing Policies

  • Must be 18+ with a signed Waiver & Indemnification Form

  • Late fees begin after the standard rental period (day 4 for tools, day 6 for outdoor gear):

    • Hand & power tools, bins: $5/day

    • Kayaks & paddleboards: $10/day

    • Late fees are capped at the item’s replacement cost + $15 admin fee

  • Items must be returned clean & in working order by 6 PM on their due date

  • One phone-in renewal per item (no auto-renew)
